Flame wars are when an otherwise normal thread is hijacked into an all out insult fest between two or more people/groups. N00bs often think that any serious debate is a flame war, but they are wrong, and are often flamed for it. Think of flame wars as an online version of a shouting match.
Flame wars are often started by Forum Arsonists, Vet Whackers, particularly aggressive n00bs or by the result of n00b whacking (but generally not wanted by n00b whackers themselves).
