Overview
TheRoboteer, also known as Robo or TR, is a GTM user who joined the forums in June 2016. However, He had lurked GTM for around 2 years prior to him finally making an account. He first found out about Robot Arena 2 in 2011 when looking for Robot Wars games on Youtube. He downloaded stock RA2 and played it exclusively without visiting GTM at all other than to download the game for roughly 3 years. A hard drive failure resulted in him losing his copy of RA2 and forgetting about the game for about a year. However, in 2015 he rediscovered RA2 and GTM, and this time downloaded DSL 2.1 and began lurking the forums in late 2015. After updating to DSL 2.2, he decided to join the forums, but did not make his first post until a few months after joining. He also has a strong like for Front-Hinged Flippers, and has produced numerous bots of this type during his time on the forum.
Bot Building
TheRoboteer plays DSL almost exclusively, though has recently branched out to try Ironforge and Stock building in order to compete in the 2nd GameTechMods Championship. He is a strong believer that DSL-IRL should stay as close to real life robotics as possible, and as a result his building style tends to fall into neither the artbot, nor competitive designs camp, with his builds instead focusing on being as close to designs that could be built in real life as possible, regardless of competitiveness in RA2, and often even visual flair.
His abilities in DSL are average to below average. As of late, he exclusively builds extenderbots utilising Dragonsteincole's IRL packs of coloured extenders and armour panels. Some of his more recent robots built in this style have garnered praise, however his building skills below Middleweight level are still far from up-to-scratch. That said, his bots have already found some success in tournaments in his time on the forum, with his robots Caldera 3 finishing as runner-up in The Cybernetic Colosseum, Enceladus finishing 3rd place in the Robogames, and Bocuma III and Sabre each winning a side event in Orc's Wars.
Tournament Performances
TheRoboteer's tournament performances tend to vary wildly in terms of success. He has notably seen success in the 2nd Gametechmods Championship, reaching the final 8 of the stock division, and the final 4 of both the DSL and Ironforge divisions before being eliminated. Despite this success, TheRoboteer has still yet to win a full scale tournament ,depsite a multitude of high placings in tournaments, and wins in side events. TheRoboteer's bots also has a tendency to either run deep into the tournament, or to lose at the first opportunity possible which leads to the wild inconsistency of his tournament record.
Notable Bots
Strychinine - An entry into the loosely-IRL Redditbots tournament held by the BattleBots subreddit. This robot surprisingly became runner-up in the competition, defying everyone's expectations and beating numerous bots including DemonOfTomorrow's Polonium-210, before being beaten in the grand final.
Sabre I-IV - A narrow front hinge flipper which surprised many including TheRoboteer himself by reaching the semi finals of the Orc's Wars display tournament, and also becoming the winner of the challenge belt in that same tournament. Is also notable for being TheRoboteer's personal favourite bot that he has built.
Caldera 3 - A Stinger-esque front hinge flipper which was entered into Badnik96's tournament The Cybernetic Colosseum. This robot also surprised many by becoming the runner-up in its weight class, before losing to Baconus Yum's mechavore spinner.
Bocuma (1, 2 & 3) - TheRoboteer's 'signature' line of robots. All armed with front-hinged flippers and but with varying chassis designs over the course of the series. Bocuma III became World Champion of TheOrcCorp's Orc's Wars tournament, despite failing to qualify for the main tournament.
Enceladus - Another front hinge flipper that was entered into DemonOfTomorrow's Robogames tournament, where it had some success, coming 3rd in the heavyweight division.
Speed Demon I-V - A line of spinner robots based upon the martini racing colour scheme seen on many racing cars. The first bot in the line was a horizontal spinner, while allothers since have been vertical spinners. Have seen great success in all tournaments they have entered, reaching the semi finals of Orc's Wars II, and finishing as runner-up in Billy5545's tournament, Robot Emperor.
Titchmarshmallow - An Ironforge gutripper entered into the 2nd Gametechmods Championship. Surprised many with its strong performance despite being TheRoboteer's first ironforge build ever, reaching the final 4 of the division before losing to Geice's VS. Notable for its effective wedges.
