Editing an Existing Page

To edit a page, login or make an account on the wiki. Then, go to the page you want to edit and hit the "edit" tab near the top of your screen. Once you arrive at the page, you should see a box with text; this is the text that is displayed when you open up that wiki page. You can now add words, edit words, delete words, even delete everything (Not Recomended). Now, you will see little icons at the top of the box, these icons allow you to edit the appearence of the text, insert links to other wiki pages, insert images, etc. These features will be explained later. After you are done editing, you can hit the "show preview" button near the bottom of your page to see what effect your changes will have on the page. Once you know that your changes are all correct, you can hit save page and the wiki page will be changed according to your editing.

Creating a New Page

To create a completely new page, put in the name of the new page into the search box. A page should come up saying there is no wiki page titled what you searched, and then a red link next to it saying "you can create this page." If you click that link it will take you to an editing box where you can create your new page from scratch.

Redirecting

Lets say, that you want to be able to put in "TTB" in the search box, and be imediatly redirected to the "Tank Tread Brothers" wiki page. You can do this by creating an article called TTB (or whatever applies to your situation) and putting in the following text:

 #REDIRECT [[Tank Tread Brothers]]

Or whatever applies to you. Now if someone searches or goes to the "TTB" page, they will automaticaly get redirected to "Tank Tread Brothers" page.

Uploading Files

In order to put up images or videos on a wiki page, you have to upload then onto the wiki first. To do this, you go to the upload file link under the searchbox. Then, you hit browse and find the file you want to upload. You can only upload images and videos, and all images must be saved as .jpg or .png files, and all videos have to be saved as .ogg files. Once you select the file from your hardisk, hit the upload file button and your file has been uploaded.

Creating Categories

Categories are used to put various pages that are similar into one list. To make a category, put:

 [[Category:insert name of category here]]

Once you save the page and it re-opens the category name should be a red link. Click the link and add whatever text you want to sum up the list. Then, when you want to add another wiki page to that category just put [[Category:insert name of existing category here]]


Editing Tools

When you are editing a page, you should see eleven little icons at the top of your editing box. When clicked on, these will allow you to further edit a page, besides just adding and editing text.

Bold

First Icon is Bold Text: The bold icon is represented by a black B and when pressed it will create the the words "Bold Text" with three apostrophes on each side. You can replace "Bold Text" with whatever text you want to be bolded. If you already have the text you want to be bolded typed, you can highlight it and hit the bold icon and three apostrophes will suround it. (You can also just manually bold it by putting three apostrophes around the text, but the icon may be faster for some people.)

Italic

Second Icon is Italic Text: The Italic Text icon is represented by a slanted or italicized I and when pressed will put Italic Text with two apostrophes on each side. Like bold, you just change "Italic Text" into whatever text you want to be italicized. You can also just highlight the text that you have already typed and hit the icon as well. And as always you can always just manually put two apostrophes on each side of a word to italicize it.

Internal Link

Third Icon is Internal Link: This icon is represented by an Ab underlined and colored blue. This Icon allows you to place a link to other wiki pages inside the page your are editing. So if there were a wikipage titled "hammer", and you went to another wiki page that had the word hammer somewhere in its text and you highlighted it and clicked Internal Link, that word would become a link to the "hammer" wiki page. This might sound confusing, but here is what it looks like: hammer. To add an Internal Link, just highlight the text you want (make sure there is a wiki page has the word as its title) hit the icon. If there is not a page that matches the word, the word will appear red instead of blue, and when clicked it will say there is no page with that title. The Internal Link is not case sensitive. It is a good Idea to add Internal Links to wiki pages to make it easier for people to find stuff in the wiki. You can also make the text for the link say something, but when you click the link it takes you too another page. Lets say you want to an internal link to have the text "Spiders" representing it, but when clicked it takes you to Urjak's page.You can do this by putting the following text: [[Urjak|Spiders]].

External Link

Fourth Icon is External Link: This icon is represented by a globe with a page in the lower corner. This Icon allows you to add external links, or links to pages or websites outside the wiki. To make an external link, first click the icon, then put the full name of the website or page you are linking to in between the two brackets. Then, while still inside the brackets, put a space and then type what word you want to represent the link. For example, If I were to put the URL of gametechmods in between the two brackets, then put a space and type GTM, the word GTM will be blue, and when clicked on will take you to the Gametechmods website. If you dont put any word after the URL, the link will just be labeled "1". You can tell an External Link from an Internal Link because there will be a little square next to the word with an arrow coming out of it.

Level 2 Headline

Fifth Icon is Level 2 Headline: This icon is represented by a big black A. This Icon allows you to put sub-headings into your wiki page. For example, this page is titled Editing Help:Editing, and the section you are reading right now is called Editing Tools. Notice how Editing Tools looks like the title. By highlighting text and pressing the icon, you can create sub-sections easily.

Embedded Image

Sixth Icon is Embedded Image: This icon is represented by a tiny picture of what looks like a landscape. This icon allows you to add an image to the wiki page. You do this by first uploading an image, (look at the Uploading files section above for instructions on how to upload files.) then going to the upload file page and clicking on the list of uploaded files link. Once you find the image you want to use, copy its name and go back to the page you want to edit. Click the Embedded Image icon and repalce the "Example.jpg" with the name you copied, and when you save and view the page, the image should be there.

File Link

Seventh Icon is Media File Link: This icon is represented by a trumpet. This icon allows you to put media or video files onto a wiki page. I have limited knowledge on using videos on the wiki, so I would prefer if someone who knew more about it would explain. I do know though that first you must upload you video on the wiki, copy its filename, press the icon, and replace "Example.ogg" with you video's filename.

Math Forumla

Eighth Icon is Mathmatical Formula: Unfortunately they don't work because ACAMS was too lazy and didn't install the PHP LaTeX -> PNG renderer.

Ignore Formatting

Ninth Icon is Ignore Wiki Formatting: This icon is represented by a W in a circle with a slash across it. This icon allows you to ignore the wiki's automatic formatting. For example, if I want to put '''Something''' without that word being bolded, I just highlight it and press ignore wiki formatting.

Signature & Timestamp

Tenth Icon is Your signature and Timestamp: This icon is represented by what looks like cursive writing and it adds your wiki username and time of editing to the page.

Horizontal Line

Eleventh icon is Horizontal Line: This icon is represented by a horizontal line and when clicked will add a horizontal line that goes all the way across the page. Useful for separating paragraphs.

Other Text Changes

There are also many text editing features that do not have matching Icons:

  • To underline a word, put <u>insert your word here</u>
  • To put small text, put <small>Insert your word here</small>
  • To put Big Text, put <b>Insert your word here</big>. Big text is not recommended for use except when its inside small text.
  • To strike out text, put <s>Insert your word here</s>.
  • To put bullet marks, put a * at the beginning of your sentence to bullet.
    • Put two stars in a row to put the bullet underneath the previous bullet.

Conclusion

I hope this has helped you better understand the wiki. All of the editing tools may seem confusing when first explained, but if you try them out and experiment I promise you will catch on quick.
