BEWARE: this is about Stock. Don't take these advice for DSL. Sledgehammers are pretty good in DSL.

Yes, they might look dangerous, and even the game says it's "good", but no.

Don't use them, or perhaps for counter-weights, but still there are better weapons. Remember: don't use weapons above 14 kg.
