Robot Arena was announced in May of 2015, when the Robotarena.com domain was changed to an early logo of Robot Arena 3 with the message "CREATE.DESTRUCTION IN 2016". Robot Arena III was being released on the Steam marketplace on 26th May 2016, expected to cost $19.99USD, and is the first in the franchise to use the Unity game engine.

The game had live online multiplayer support, which gave the community hope but launched in an Early Access in an extremely poor, buggy state and only took away from the RA2 stock experience - it got quickly flooded with negative reviews and abandoned by the Robot Arena community at large. While the developers promise to keep improving the game, their track record has been poor since the game left Early Access in a still inferior state and with very few updates since. Its existence is already largely forgotten by the community at large.
